What is the dosage and how should it be used?

The usual dose range for adults is between 10-80 mg once daily, usually taken with the evening meal. It is common to begin at 10 mg once daily, and measure fasting lipid levels within the first 4 weeks, and then adjust dosage according to the response. 

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg per day. Lipitor® comes in 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg tablet sizes.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with atorvastatin. The interaction could lead to potentially dangerous effects.

Do not stop taking atorvastatin without first talking to your doctor. This particular medication may need to be taken on a long-term basis for the treatment of high cholesterol.
